The Opel GT is a sports car manufactured by Opel. It is a two-seated car with rear wheel drive with the engine is positioned in the front of the car. Two generations of the car were produced with a 34 year gap between them. The first generation of the car was displayed at the 1965 Frankfurt and Paris motor shows as a concept car with styling said to be reminiscent of the Chevrolet Corvette.
The car was designed by Erhard Schnell using a fastback style which had no external trunk (a parcel shelf was provided behind the seats for storage that also had space for a spare tire and jack) and was not a conventional hatchback design. The production version of the car used components from Opel’s Kadett B in a steel unibody frame. Between 1968 and 1973 just over 100,000 of the GT was sold with the most collectible being the first few hundred examples which were hand assembled.
