Staying in one of the Akumal apartment rentals is an economical way to enjoy this Mexican resort, located about 100 km south of Cancun. Akumal is perhaps best known as a snorkeling destination, partly due to its clear waters, and partly due to the large number of endangered sea turtles in the area. However, a vacation rental also lets you enjoy the other attractions of the area, including several beautiful beaches, and opportunities for deep sea fishing. The town is also home to a good selection of restaurants, bars and cafes although in general it’s a little quieter than many other Mexican resorts. Rentals can be found all over the area, and can accommodate the entire family comfortably. A rental overlooking the beach will cost you more, but it may be worth it to literally step outside your door and be on the beach.
