Benefits Of Gamification In Learning

Gamification refers to the use of game elements in the classroom. Gamification in learning can involve, for example, earning ‘points’ or other currency for completing a task and completing one or more tasks to move to the ‘next level’. This helps make learning for fun for students and stimulates their competitive streak when picking up new ideas or concepts.

Gamification is increasingly being used in education because research has found that children learn best when they are having fun and also when they have targets and achievements to aim for. The idea is to increase children’s engagement by using the techniques that video and other games use to get and keep their attention. As well as point scoring gamification techniques include creating peer competition, working in teams and listing the teams that scored best to increase children’s assimilation of new knowledge and to test how well they have done so.
