Human effects on the planet’s atmosphere are causing widespread disruption to almost every aspect of our lives. Climate change disruption is so impactful because human beings can only survive in a narrow range of atmospheric conditions (neither too hot nor too cold). Changes to the climate caused by increased levels of greenhouse gases in the atmosphere have already resulted in record-breaking temperatures and extreme weather events around the globe. In only the last decade severe hurricanes, forest fires and heat waves have affected millions of people and these are only expected to increase in frequency in the future.
There is a direct relationship between average daily temperatures and the yields farmers can expect from their crops. When these are impacted negatively the people that rely on them experience disruption to their incomes, households, health and mortality rates. This, in turn, can result in mass migration as people move away from land that can no longer be farmed successfully.
