Energy is a major expense for more than a third of small businesses according to some estimates but many can take steps to achieve significant business energy savings by doing some of the following:
• Switching to a retail energy provider to get the best electricity and natural gas rates; in de-regulated energy markets suppliers offer a range of prices and plan options.
• Set energy savings goals by assessing current energy usage and developing strategies to combat areas where it is being wasted or could be used more efficiently.
• Use data analytics technology to provide an overall view of how power is being used and to pinpoint areas where it can be reduced.
• Take advantage of tax benefits or investment incentives such as the Investment Tax Credit provided for businesses that use solar systems; some states and local authorities also offer rebates on energy efficient equipment.
