Light emitting diodes bulbs give off light very differently than incandescent light bulbs. The LED only using the electricity to generate light by sending electrons to a semiconductor. Because it only produces light unlike the incandescent bulb that has to heat up to produce light, it uses a lot less energy to produce that light.
Since 90% of the incandescent bulb’s energy is given off as heat, the LED is far more efficient because of its energy is used to create light. LED bulbs use 80% to 85% less energy than incandescent bulbs. They last much longer also reaching a lifespan that 3 to 25 times longer.
While the LED is five times the cost of the incandescent bulb, it uses far less energy more than making up for the initial outlay. Over a 25,000 hour period, the incadescent bulb uses 1500 kwh, while the LED only uses 212.5 kwh.
