Providing healthy drinking water for livestock is essential for their health and well-being and, in turn, for the quality of the meat products that are derived from them. Livestock water treatment falls into one of four types:
• Reverse Osmosis – this process removes contaminants present in water and other elements that can adversely affect the animal’s health through a process of osmosis.
• Desalination – this is a reverse osmosis system where salty or brackish water is processed into fresh water.
• Ultrafiltration – this is a process that uses a pressure-driven separation method that drives water through a membrane that removes particulates and other suspended matter in water (such as colloids and silt).
• UV Sterilization – this is a method where water that is of otherwise adequate quality, is treated with UV light in order to kill any bacterial contaminants that may be present.
