What Is A PAT Testing Course?

People that are tasked with ensuring all electrical equipment is maintained and in good working order must pass a Portable Appliance Testing (PAT) course. A PAT testing course does not require an applicant to have any specific qualifications but the test must be carried out by a person that has sufficient technical knowledge to ensure that injury is prevented. The course will teach an applicant the technical knowledge they need to understand and give them the practical experience required to test portable appliances.

This means that a person only needs to be deemed competent to check appliances for safety to undertake the course. The course will cover subjects such as the general principles of how electricity works, classifying different types of appliances, dangers of faulty appliances, legal issues and codes of practice. Once successfully completed the applicant receives a certificate of competency in PAT testing.
