An editorial model is used in a fashion magazine photo-shoot when the magazine is attempting to represent a specific idea, look or experience to its readers. The models used for editorial pieces are typically well known and are already established in the modelling profession. For the beginning or aspiring model editorial work can be a great career opportunity.

Editorials in fashion magazines are prestigious because they reflect what is the current or future direction of fashion trends. They include not only photographs of the clothes the model is wearing but also focus on the model’s hairstyle, make-up, skin care lotions and other products that represent a particular lifestyle which the location for the photo shoot also reflects.

An editorial model needs to fit into the overall theme or style that the editorial is aiming to show. It represents an idealized image or concept that the model needs to fit into to be effective.
