What Is Batch Cooking?

Batch cooking, as the term implies, involves preparing meals that are cooked in batches that are intended for more than one meal. They are cooked in large sizes after which individual portions are stored (usually frozen) for later use. Another approach is to make a meal plan for a longer period of time (typically one week) and do the shopping and cooking for each meal at the same time, dedicating a few hours to cooking all the meals that you will eat that week.

By planning and preparing meals in advance you can avoid impulse eating or food shopping which can result in poor nutritional choices. By cooking for a week, you can also buy raw materials in bulk which can save time and money. Careful meal planning will also result in less food waste and will mean you are not tempted to eat out or to eat fast foods.
