Fire safety training is required if you work in a hospital, airport, school or government building. And it’s often an important part of the orientation and training at any new job. While the point of this training isn’t to make you an expert on fire safety, it is meant to teach you what to do in the event of a fire, and you may find you have to take the training every year. After completing training, you’ll probably have a good idea of what the different types of fire are, including electrical and cooking oils, and how to safely put them out. You’ll also learn how to use a fire extinguisher efficiently and safely and where they are located in your building. Knowing where the smoke alarms and sprinklers are in your workplace is also part of training, as well as the evacuation route and meeting point.
