Smart pots are container made from a porous material or fabric that allows air and water to pass through its surface. The roots of a plant planted in a smart pot do not begin to circle the pot material the way they do in plastic containers, instead the root grows against the inner surface of the material. This means that they do not become ‘root-bound’ which can damage the plant and by allowing oxygen to reach the plant, smart pots enable more vigorous and healthy growth. Also, because they are made of a porous material, smart pots protect plants from over-watering. Smart pots enhance the gardening experience by producing healthy and fruitful plants that require less digging and weeding than those planted in soil using traditional techniques. Smart pots come in a variety of shapes and sizes (and colours) to suit any plant growing application.
