Benefits Of Hemp Bedding For Rats

Hemp makes a good bedding material for rats because it provides a large substrate that absorbs waste and odors and is a material that rats would use in nature to create nests for sleeping. Other types of substrates that are sometimes used for rat bedding (such as wood shavings and corn cob bedding, for example) sometimes contain essential oils or dust and in some cases are regarded as food by the animal leading to allergic reactions and other negative health effects.

Hemp bedding for rats is the best choice because it is not palatable to the animal and is also low in dust and will not irritate the rat’s lungs. Hemp fiber can absorb up to four times its weight in moisture which means that a rat’s cage stays cleaner for longer and also reduces the potential for mold to grow inside the cage – mold not only smells bad but its spores can irritate the rat’s lungs and lead to illness. Finally hemp is a natural product and is completely biodegradable
