A cheer squad can rehearse a flag sequence perfectly and still lose the intended visual effect at competition. A logo that looked balanced on a laptop may bunch near the pole, disappear into a fold, or become difficult to read once the fabric catches air.
Flags are flexible equipment, not rigid posters.
Their design has to account for movement, viewing distance, construction, lighting, and the way performers will grip and rotate the pole. Starting with the finished flag in mind prevents a polished digital graphic from becoming an awkward object on the sideline.
