Aids for activities of daily living (also known as aids for daily living, self-care equipment and basic assistive technology) are devices and equipment that are used to help people that are aged or disabled to perform everyday functional activities.
These can include devices that help them with meal preparation and eating, self grooming, bathing and showering, dressing themselves, transferring to and from their beds, getting in and out of wheelchairs, writing and basic communication, home cleaning and management, community living and social activities, among others.
Some common examples of these types of devices include large-print or talking book devices, tub benches, specially adapted utensils and various tool holders, among others. These devices and technologies are designed to help adapt the environment to the user, rather than the other way around, to support their specific needs based on their disability or infirmity.
